Dr Gordon Slater

Dr Gordon Slater is an experienced and internationally recognised orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle conditions, sports injuries, and orthopaedic trauma. He holds an MBBS and FRACS (Orth), and is a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA).

Graduating from the University of New South Wales in 1987, Dr Slater completed his orthopaedic residency in 1991 and received his Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Orthopaedics in 1997. That same year, he undertook advanced training in foot and ankle surgery at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery—one of the leading orthopaedic institutions in the world.

Dr Slater is one of the first foot and ankle surgeons in Australia to adopt Minimally Invasive Techniques (MIT) in his surgical practice. He routinely applies MIT to the treatment of a wide range of conditions, including bunions. The potential benefits of these techniques include shorter operating times, reduced post-operative pain, a lower risk of infection, minimal scarring, and improved cosmetic outcomes.

He is a widely published contributor to the field, having written chapters in the Textbook of Ankle Arthroscopy and Arthritis Foot & Ankle Clinics of North America. His achievements have been recognised with listings in Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Science and Engineering (2004–2006). He has served as an Associate Editor of the Foot and Ankle International Journal and continues to present at national and international conferences.

Dr Slater has also been invited to join the Editorial Panel of EC Orthopaedics, a platform for global orthopaedic research.

Approach

You’ll be encouraged to discuss all aspects of your treatment options with Dr Slater to make an informed, collaborative decision. Dr Slater allocates 30 minutes for your initial consultation. If a surgical procedure is recommended, your appointment may extend to 60 minutes. He will discuss all of your treatment options, and will give you the information required to make an informed decision about what treatment is best for you.

Minimally Invasive Techniques

Dr Slater was among the early adopters of  Minimally Invasive Techniques (MIT) in foot and ankle surgery in Australia. He routinely performs MIT procedures to treat conditions such as bunions and deformities. These techniques often allow for smaller incisions, faster recovery, less post-operative pain, and better cosmetic outcomes.
