DR GORDON SLATER

Dr. Gordon Slater is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle conditions, sports injuries, and trauma. Dr. Gordon Slater is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle conditions, sports injuries, and trauma. He holds an MBBS, FRACS (Orth), and a Fellowship with the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA), bringing decades of clinical experience to patient care.

A graduate of the University of New South Wales, Dr. Slater completed advanced foot and ankle training at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery in 1997. He was among the first surgeons in Australia to adopt Minimally Invasive Techniques (MIT), which may support faster recovery and reduced post-operative discomfort compared with traditional approaches.

Dr. Slater has contributed to medical texts, presented at national and international conferences, and served as Associate Editor of Foot and Ankle International. He is also a member of the Editorial Panel of EC Orthopaedics, reflecting his engagement in ongoing developments within orthopaedic surgery.

Approach

Dr Slater earned his medical degree from UNSW in 1987 and completed his orthopaedic residency in 1991. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1997. That same year, he completed advanced foot and ankle training at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery.

Minimally Invasive Techniques​

An early adopter of Minimally Invasive Techniques (MIT) in foot and ankle surgery in Australia, Dr. Slater routinely treats bunions and deformities using MIT. These techniques offer smaller incisions, quicker recovery, less pain, and improved cosmetic results.

Education and Training

Dr. Slater earned his medical degree from UNSW in 1987, completed his orthopaedic residency in 1991, and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1997. That same year, he undertook advanced foot and ankle training at New York’s Hospital for Special Surgery.
